Here’s My Story

Hello, I’m Rickie Clavin (They/Them)

I’m a licensed cosmetologist, anthropology graduate, and lifelong science nerd. I identify as genderfluid and believe diversity strengthens every environment—from ecosystems to communities, and schools of thought.

When I’m not working, you’ll often find me wandering museums, dancing, exploring nature, or supporting local businesses. Green Grotto® grew from a lifelong curiosity about ancient life, spiritual practices, and how things are made.

I was the “weird” kid mixing potions, collecting rocks, and asking a lot of questions…

Raised by military parents on Cape Cod, I spent my childhood between the beach, the base, and my mom’s hair salon.

After seeing how the salon became a place of comfort, connection, and care for my mother, I began to understand beauty as something deeper than appearance—it could be a ritual, a refuge, and a way of supporting others.

I decided to attend a vocational high school for cosmetology, and my journey has evolved from there.

Green Grotto® has grown through years of experience, learning, and personal commitment. Each chapter has shaped my approach to beauty, sustainability, and holistic care. Where I work may change, but the intention remains the same: creating meaningful rituals that nurture both people and the planet.

  • Upper Cape Cod Technical High School

    I began my journey in cosmetology at Upper Cape Cod Technical High School, graduating at the top of my class in 2010.

    During my training, personal health challenges led me to take a closer look at ingredient chemistry and the products we use every day. What began as a personal investigation grew into a deeper awareness of the relationship between beauty, human health, and the environment.

    That curiosity became a guiding principle in my work: exploring how beauty practices can care for both people and the planet.

    Green Grotto® began in 2015 with a simple belief: timeless beauty comes from a balanced body, mind, and spirit. For eight years, Green Grotto® operated as a single-chair salon offering sustainable beauty services rooted in intentional care. Over time, the work expanded beyond the salon into a broader practice supporting intuitive guidance, community wellness, and ethical growth for artists and small business owners.

    Alongside hands-on experience, I continued developing skills in business communication, principles of management, and the foundations of building a values-driven small business.

  • Bridgewater State University

    My curiosity eventually led me to college, where I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology with a minor in Middle East Studies in 2018.

    With the guidance of my advisers, I intentionally curated my coursework to build the foundation for Green Grotto®. My studies explored archaeology, chemistry in everyday life, environmentalism, arts for advocacy, communication, culture and consciousness, evolutionary nutrition, and the many ways humans create meaning and connection.

    Anthropology gave me language for what I had experienced all along: across cultures and throughout history, ritual helps people navigate change, strengthen resilience, and create a sense of belonging.

    This understanding expanded Green Grotto® beyond sustainable beauty into a practice exploring where beauty, ecology, spirituality, and education intersect.

  • As a generational psychic medium, I have experienced connection with spirits, energies, and the unseen world since childhood. My approach is inspired by animist traditions that honor the interconnectedness of all living things and encourage a respectful relationship with the energies around us.

    Honoring my heritage, I follow Celtic Reconstructionism—a modern Pagan path—as my primary spiritual tradition.

    My practice is shaped by continued learning, personal experience, and wisdom shared by spiritual practitioners across cultures. While I walk a specific path, I hold deep respect for the many ways people connect with Spirit, especially those rooted in their own cultural experiences.
